Agartala, August 13, 2019: On the eve of I-Day, a long-cherished dream of people Northern part of the State is likely to be realized – Kailashahar is set to be re-inducted in country’s aviation map after an agonizing 30 years wait. If things go as planned, air services between Kolkata and Kailashahar will re-start from January, 2021. Officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI) said this today. Meanwhile, Indigo will start direct flight services in Agartala-New Delhi air route from tomorrow. According to information in Indigo website, 6E 2047 will depart from New Delhi at 12.50 noon and arrive at Agartala at 15.20 hours. From Agartala, the flight will depart at 15.50 hours and touchdown Delhi airport at around 18.30 hours.
Officials of AAI today held a meeting at Kailashahar and discussed various aspects relating to resuming air services in Kailashahar. Local sources said one-way flight fare between Kolkata-Kailashahar is likely to be within the range of Rs 2500-2700 per passenger. It is learnt, flights will start operation within present periphery of Kailashahar airport. Air services were snapped at Kailashahar in 1991.
“As the news of resumption in the air-services spread, the joyous mood among the people prevailed. After a long period, our dreams are likely to be realized. Common people – importantly patients will be benefitted”, commented a Kailashahar based shop owner.
Air services between Kailashahar-Kolkata will come as a boon for State tourism and also, people of undivided North district and Dhalai will be immensely benefitted. “With the resumption of air services, Unakoti, Jampui Hills and other tourists’ spots are expected to pull larger number of tourists”, commented an official on condition of anonymity.
