Agartala, April 03, 2020: Tripura remains, so far, coronavirus free State – however, two persons of Tripura who are presently in Rajasthan tested Coronavirus positive. And both of them attended Tablighi Jamaat.

Health Secretary Dr. Debasis Basu, in a press conference in Agartala today, said that two persons of Tripura who attended religious congregation – Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin – had been tested positive in Rajasthan. He said the matter was verbally communicated to the state government.

He said an 11-member group of left the state for Delhi on March 5 to attend Tablighi Jamaat and they stayed there till March 8 last. “After the religious congregation was over, they went to Bikinir of Rajasthan instead of returning to Tripura. When the Nizamuddin issue came to light, all 11 members of Tripura, now in Rajasthan, have been quarantined based on mobile tower location tracking. Their samples have been tested. Two among the 11 persons have been tested COVID19 positive and they are under treatment,” Dr. Basu told the Media.

Except one Manipuri girl in Manipur and a pastor in Mizoram, whole North East Region was free from coronavirus. However, Taglighi  returnees in Assam and other States tested positive – suddenly pushing the number of affected persons. This caused resentment as well as fear among the people. However, Nizamuddin Tablighi returnees to Tripura were found negative even though they are in institution quarantine.

Meanwhile, as many as 192 samples were tested in the state so far and 177 reports came negative. The remaining reports were expected to come by tonight.

“Total 6620 persons are under quarantine now. Among them 6468 persons are in home quarantine and 134 persons are in institutional quarantine,” Dr. Basu said adding that adequate stocks of essential medicines were available. He also stated that a local manufacturing unit was given license for producing sanitizer.
