Addressing a gathering at DK Auditorium during the inauguration of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd) on Thursday made a strong appeal to state legislators to prioritise transformative reforms, particularly in land governance, waste management, sanitation, and women’s empowerment.

The Governor emphasized the importance of enacting comprehensive policies that uphold women’s rights and encourage their active involvement in governance and public life.

Reflecting on the state’s journey since its formation, the Governor said that despite the challenges posed by its remote location, difficult terrain, and scattered population, the people of Arunachal Pradesh built their state from the ground up with resilience and visionary leadership. He noted that through people-centric legislation and determined efforts, the state steered clear of the unrest and instability that affected several northeastern states.

“Arunachal Pradesh chose the path of peace, inclusivity, and unity in its diversity,” he said, underlining the state’s conscious effort to pursue harmony and progress.

Governor Parnaik highlighted that the state is currently experiencing a significant transformation, characterized by improved governance, better administrative reach, and enhanced public service delivery. He stated that governance in Arunachal is becoming more responsive and aligned with the needs and aspirations of its citizens.

He further praised the legislative assembly for its crucial role in this evolution, noting that the House has gone beyond law-making by contributing to a long-term vision for development. The Governor urged lawmakers to take concrete actions towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on environmental conservation, poverty eradication, gender equality, and the inclusion of all sections of society.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte, and Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor also spoke on the occasion, reflecting on the Assembly’s 50-year journey and articulating their hopes for its future.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Khandu wrote, “Fifty years of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly—a journey rooted in the voice of the people, driven by responsibility, and powered by democracy.” He added that the Governor’s presence at the Golden Jubilee was a powerful reminder that “authority without purpose is meaningless,” and called on public representatives to embrace their responsibilities to give weight to their words.

The Governor also unveiled the Golden Jubilee Commemoration Plaque, officially launching a 45-day-long series of celebratory events to mark five decades of legislative excellence and democratic resilience in the state.

To mark the historic occasion, Chief Minister Khandu released the official theme song of the Golden Jubilee, while Deputy Chief Minister Mein introduced a commemorative badge symbolizing the celebration. (Edited)
