Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday praised the Bodoland Territorial Council government for completing one year in office and highlighted joint NDA efforts to speed up development across the Bodoland Territorial Region.

NDA governments push coordinated development

Sarma congratulated the BTC government led by Hagrama Mohilary on completing its first year. He said the NDA administrations in Delhi, Dispur and Kokrajhar were working together to accelerate progress in the BTR.

The Chief Minister described the three-level coordination as a “triple-engine” model for development. He said closer cooperation among the Centre, Assam government and BTC administration would help the region move faster on infrastructure and economic growth.

Sarma made the remarks in a post on X.

He said the BTC government had completed one year in the service of the people of the BTR. He also underlined the role of coordinated governance in delivering development programmes across the region.

Bodo Peace Accord remains central to government efforts

Sarma said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was implementing every provision of the Bodo Peace Accord.

He linked the accord’s implementation with the government’s broader efforts to establish lasting peace and stability in the BTR.

The region has remained a major focus of government efforts since the signing of the peace accord. The administration has sought to combine peace initiatives with infrastructure development and welfare delivery.

Sarma has repeatedly stressed that implementing the accord remains important for improving the socio-economic conditions of the region.

The Chief Minister’s latest remarks again placed peace and development at the centre of the government’s approach to the BTR.

Welfare schemes reach BTR residents

Sarma also highlighted the implementation of major Assam government welfare programmes in the region.

These include Orunodoi, Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhiyan (CMAAA), Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) and free ration distribution.

He said the government was implementing these schemes across the BTR with full force.

The welfare programmes form an important part of the government’s development approach. Their implementation, alongside infrastructure projects, is aimed at extending state-level benefits to people across the region.

Sarma said the government was not limiting its focus to major infrastructure projects. It was also strengthening welfare delivery as part of its wider development strategy.

Rs 1,000 crore package for BTR roads

The Chief Minister also pointed to the state government’s approval of a Rs 1,000 crore special package for improving road infrastructure in the BTR.

Better road connectivity is expected to support movement within the region and strengthen the foundation for wider economic activity.

The road package also fits into the government’s broader plan to expand infrastructure across the BTR.

Sarma said the government was simultaneously working to establish the region as a manufacturing and logistics hub.

Such a transition could create opportunities for investment and employment. It could also support wider economic growth in the four-district region.

Manufacturing and logistics hub in focus

The government’s development strategy extends beyond welfare schemes and road construction.

Sarma said efforts were underway to position the BTR as a potential manufacturing and logistics centre. The objective is to create new avenues for investment, jobs and economic activity.

The approach places infrastructure and economic opportunities alongside peace and welfare delivery.

For the government, these areas form part of a broader effort to transform the region’s socio-economic landscape following the Bodo Peace Accord.

Four districts form the BTR

The Bodoland Territorial Region comprises Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Tamulpur districts.

The region has remained at the heart of efforts to consolidate peace and accelerate development after the signing of the Bodo Peace Accord.

Sarma’s latest statement also highlighted the political importance of coordination between the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Assam and the BTC administration.

The NDA has projected peace and development as twin priorities for the BTR. The government’s approach combines implementation of the peace accord with welfare programmes, road infrastructure and plans for greater economic activity.

The BTC government’s completion of one year in office has therefore provided the Assam government an opportunity to underline its development agenda for the region.

Sarma’s message focused on continued coordination among the three levels of government and the need to sustain efforts aimed at peace, infrastructure development, welfare delivery and economic growth in the BTR. (Edited by Enewstime Desk)
