There is a significant reduction in incidents of violence during the nine years of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule at the central, asserted Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Shah while addressing a gathering in Guwahati also accused the previous government of failing to tackle the rampant violence and extremism that plagued the nation.
The Union Home Minister claimed, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the country has witnessed a notable decline of 67% in violent incidents, a 60% decrease in security forces’ casualties, and an impressive 83% reduction in civilian deaths.
During his speech, Shah praised the efforts of former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in bringing about positive change in Assam.
He attributed the state’s progress to the establishment of effective systems and expressed his confidence in Assam’s trajectory toward development and peace under the BJP’s leadership.
The Home Minister underscored the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the rich language and culture of Assam. Shah commended Prime Minister Modi’s personal involvement in commemorating the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, a prominent historical figure. He also celebrated the achievement of Assam’s youth, who recently set a world record for the traditional Bihu dance.
Highlighting the “double-engine” government of the BJP at both the state and central levels, Shah expressed pride in Assam’s journey towards becoming the medical capital of the northeast. He revealed that the state’s fiscal position has improved significantly, with the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) witnessing a remarkable rise from Rs 4 lakh crore in 2021-22 to Rs 5.50 lakh crore in 2023-24.
Shah further emphasized the state’s industrial growth, attributing it to favorable industrial policies and increased investments. He reassured the audience that the central government is fully dedicated to making Assam flood-free within the next five years, underscoring their commitment to addressing critical challenges faced by the state.
The Union Home Minister’s statements shed light on the BJP’s claim of successfully curbing violence and fostering development during their tenure. These remarks come at a time when the government is actively working on various initiatives to boost Assam’s economy and preserve its cultural heritage. (Edited)
