Synopsis: Manipur has reported a notable improvement in its Covid-19 situation, with the daily positivity rate falling to 13.3% as of Sunday, down from 32.5% on June 26. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recently held a high-level review meeting, emphasizing the need for readiness, medical infrastructure, and public awareness in anticipation of a possible resurgence.

Imphal (Manipur), July 6 : Manipur has witnessed a steady decline in Covid-19 cases, with the daily positivity rate dropping to 13.3% on Sunday, a significant improvement from 32.5% recorded on June 26, according to state health officials.

A Health and Family Welfare Department official cited data from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), which revealed that two individuals tested positive out of 15 samples examined on Sunday. Since June 1, 2025, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the state has reached 298.

As of now, there are 55 active Covid-19 cases in Manipur. On Sunday, 13 patients were discharged following recovery, increasing the cumulative recovery count to 243. Encouragingly, no fatalities have been reported during this period.

Among the 298 confirmed cases, Imphal West recorded the highest at 196, followed by Imphal East with 69, Bishnupur with 18, Thoubal with 10, and two cases each from Tengnoupal and Chandel. One case was reported from Kakching. Except for Tengnoupal and Chandel, which are tribal-dominated hill districts, the remaining five are located in the Imphal Valley.

Director of Health Services, Dr. Chambo Gonmei, stated that the first case in the current outbreak was detected on June 9, when a 23-year-old woman from Bishnupur district tested positive. He urged the public to stay vigilant, as infections continue to be reported in other regions of the country.

To assess the state’s preparedness, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recently chaired a review meeting at the Raj Bhavan. He emphasized the need for proactive strategies, sufficient healthcare infrastructure, and public awareness to ensure readiness in the event of a future spike in infections.

Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, along with senior officials from the Health Department and other key functionaries, participated in the review. The meeting followed fresh advisories from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare aimed at strengthening Covid-19 readiness amid renewed concerns of a resurgence.

A Raj Bhavan spokesperson said that health authorities updated the Governor on measures taken to enhance preparedness, including testing capacity, availability of personal protective gear, oxygen reserves, ICU and isolation facilities, essential medicines, and the functioning of the IDSP-Integrated Health Information Platform portal.
