Dr Pachuau of Mizo Convention appealed all to refrain from such rumour mongering, trust on and assist administrations in their duty in settling the issue.

Agartala : Mizo civil societies of Tripura and Mizoram appealed for communal harmony and assist the Governments of Tripura and Mizoram to resolve the emerging situation after a clash between some of the locals of Jampui Hills under North Tripura with Mizoram Police.

In view of recent tension in Jampui hills under North Tripura after a clash between Mizoram police personnel and local villagers, the leaders of the Mizo civil society organisations from Mizoram and Tripura like the Young Mizo Association (YMA), the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) took up the cudgel to resolve the conflict amicably before it goes out of control.

“The incident itself and the subsequent turns of events that were witnessed following the attacks of two Mizoram state IR personnel by a group of villagers of New Kawnpui (Tripura side of the village) on April 18 last are unfortunate. With mutual cooperation of state administrations and police from both Mizoram and Tripura, three of the alleged culprits have been arrested”, said Dr  Zairemthiama Pachuau, a top leader of the Mizos of the Jampui Hills.

He said, the Mizo leaders belonging to the civil society and also of YMA and MZP visited Zomuantlang (Mizoram side of the village) and held meetings with the local community leaders and government authorities

“The idea was to de-escalate the situation and help with the administrations of both states ensure all people responsible for the attack on the IR personnel are being brought to the book”.

However, Dr Pachuau, General Secretary of Jampui Hill Mizo Convention, said, “Coincidentally and unfortunately, on the night of the Mizo CSOs visit, one isolated and unoccupied house of the village was gutted by fire. The Chakma community alleged the fire was set by the Mizos and made several social media posts of their allegation, both in their personal wall and various Chakma community groups”.

“This was an unfortunate incident and communal overtures were brought in for no reason”.

After the assault on two IR personnel, we, leaders of Jampui Hill Mizo Convention rushed to New Kawnpui village in order to assist both the local Chakma and Bru communities and the two-state administrations for a peaceful solution of the issue”, he said and then added :  “I am really disappointed, as I have mentioned above, several baseless, unfounded and wild allegations are being made, circulated and posted in both social, electronic and print media”.Dr Pachuau said and then appealed all to refrain from such rumour mongering, and trust on and assist the administrations in their duty in settling the issue.
