Agartala, October 01, 2019: Tripura Social Welfare Minister Santona Chakma visited several Old Age Homes in Agartala today on the occasion of ‘International Day of Older Persons’. She spent times with the inmates and cordially interacted with them.
Sharing her experience, Santona Chakma wrote in her Facebook wall, there is ‘no beauty greater than the smile of peace and wisdom glowing on your face’.

The elderly lady with a truly glowing smile inspired younger generation to face the odds in life with courage and wisdom, said a youth who was accompanying the Minister. On the eve of Durga Puja, Santona Chakma – following the tradition of the State – handed over new dresses and sweets to inmates.
Notably, Tripura Government launched ‘Old age pension’ scheme earlier and present BJP-led Government raised the pension to Rs 1000 per month per beneficiary. The incumbent Government is committed to increase the pension to Rs 2000 per month in next phase.
On International Day of Older Persons, the State recalled the contributions that seniors had made to society through their roles as leaders, mentors and custodians of tradition.
