People stayed at home, shops and markets remained closed, vehicles were off the road – and bustling city life turned into a deserted place on Sunday during 24-hour long State wide lockdown. Along with Agartala, people adhered to complete lockdown in other parts of State, as well.
Taking to his social media handle, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb congratulated people of the state for showing such good response to his call and also urged people to follow the restrictions.
“I would like to thank people of the state for showing such a wholesome response to the lockdown. The way people have restricted themselves to their homes is really commendable. I would also like to draw the attention of the people for maintaining social distancing and other necessary restrictions such as wearing masks”, Deb wrote on his official social media post.
He had also extended the thanks to the police department for their dedicated service in time of pandemic.
The deserted city witnessed police patrol only and vehicles rendering emergency services. Senior Police officers were deployed at certain places. Strict vigil was kept on any unnecessary plying of vehicles.
Speaking on the issue Jayanta Karmakar OC West Agartala Police Station said, “People were following the imposed restrictions as no violations had been reported yet. Only the emergency services were on roads and people were co-operating with us”.
Meanwhile, lockdown was strictly followed in other parts of the State. In Unakoti district all services excluding emergency services remained stalled. People also did not venture out of the their homes.
Same picture was observed in Dhalai and Khowai district. Both the public and private organizations remained shut, vehicles were off the road, shops etc remained closed.
In the North District, entry point of the State at Churaibari looked deserted. Barring essential services, all remained stalled making the lockdown total.
Lockdown was total also in South and Gomati district and people, like other places obeyed the lockdown and stayed at home. The day passed peacefully across the State.
