Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India delivered a compelling address to top Australian CEOs during a business roundtable in Sydney, emphasizing the need to bolster business ties between India and Australia.
The event aimed to encourage Australian business leaders to establish partnerships with their Indian counterparts.
Taking to Twitter, Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, shared insights from the roundtable discussion, stating, “Expanding India-Australia business ties! PM Modi addressed top Australian CEOs at a business roundtable in Sydney.
He highlighted numerous economic reforms implemented by the government and encouraged the CEOs to forge partnerships with their Indian counterparts.”
Moreover, Bagchi outlined the specific investment opportunities India presented in various sectors, including infrastructure (such as digital infrastructure, IT, fintech, telecom), semiconductors, space technology, renewable energy (including green hydrogen), education, pharmaceuticals, healthcare (including medical devices manufacturing), mining (including critical minerals), textiles, agriculture, and food processing.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi also held a meeting with Peter Dutton, the Australian Leader of the Opposition. This encounter demonstrated the broad-based support for the India-Australia relationship across the political spectrum.
Bagchi tweeted about the productive discussion, stating, “PM Modi had a constructive meeting with Leader of Opposition Peter Dutton in Sydney. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the strong bipartisan support that our partnership enjoys. They also discussed various aspects of bilateral ties, including people-to-people linkages and regional developments.”
Modi’s visit to Australia marks the final leg of his three-nation tour, during which he arrived in Sydney as a guest of the Australian government on Monday evening.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister addressed the vibrant Indian diaspora at Sydney’s Qudos Arena, where he was warmly received by thousands of Indians living across Australia.
During the remarkable event, Anthony Albanese, the Leader of the Australian Labor Party, referred to Prime Minister Modi as “the boss,” underscoring the admiration and respect for him. In 2014, Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Australia since Rajiv Gandhi, and he addressed a crowd of 20,000 at the Sydney SuperDome in Olympic Park.
At the time, he predicted that more Indian leaders would be visiting Down Under in the years to come, highlighting the deepening ties between the two nations.
The roundtable discussion and meetings held during Modi’s visit to Sydney reflect the shared commitment to strengthening India-Australia business relations and fostering greater collaboration across various sectors.
