Agartala, May 28, 2019: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, once again, warned the perpetrators of violence of stern action and said, the State Government has already initiated actions against the troublemakers. He also said, the Government is mulling over providing financial helps to victims of post-poll violence.
Taking a jibe at CPIM, Deb said, poll time violence became a tradition during LF period – however, a positive shift was observed after BJP-IPFT government came into power in 2018.
Giving details, he said, “In 2013 Assembly elections, altogether 244 cases were registered. Among them, 107 cases were related to pre-poll violence, 127 post-poll violence and 11 cases on poll day. In 2018 assembly polls, as many as 439 cases were registered – 235 cases were related to pre-poll violence, 8 related to poll day violence and the remaining 196 cases were on post-poll violence before the new government took oath,” the Chief Minister said.
In the backdrop of such situations, only 186 cases were registered relating to 149 (pre-poll), 33 (post-poll) and 4 (poll-day) incidents during 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Minister said and added, even as incidences of violence fell remarkably – “I am not happy, I want to drop it to zero”, he commented.
“The government is ready to take stern action if anybody (BJP activist or workers of other political parties) indulges in post-poll violence,” Deb said. As a party state president, Deb also requested all the persons who joined BJP from other parties to maintain party’s own tradition – “Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas”.
