Agartala, June 04, 2019: Indigenous flute music maestro of Tripura, Thanga Darlong today received Padmashree Award. Unakoti district administration of the State formally handed over the Padmashree Award and Citation to indigenous flute player Thanga Darlong today. On behalf of the district administration, DM of Unakoti Rabindra Reang and Addl DM Ajit Shukladas felicitated Thanga Darlong in a humble programme at DM’s conference hall – and later, DM Rabindra Reang handed over Padmashree award and Citation signed by President Ramnath Kabind to Thanga Darlong. On behalf of the State Government, Addl DM Ajit Shukladas handed over sanction letter of Rs 1.5 lakh financial assistance to the musical maestro.
After receiving the Award and financial assistance, the flute music maestro expressed his satisfaction and happiness. Both the DM and Addl DM wished him a healthy long life.
Thanga Darlong was conferred Padmashree Award for his contribution in flute-based music. He played indigenous bamboo-made flute-like musical instrument – Rosem. His name was announced on January 25 last for the Award, however, the centenarian flute player could not attend the Award giving ceremony in New Delhi due to health-related issues.
