December 16, 2018: The Lifeline Express, claimed to be the world’s first hospital-train that provides medical aid and relief to patients in far- flung and inaccessible areas will arrive in Churaibari under North Tripura District next week. The seven coach train will stay from December 18 and till January 5, 2019 in the State.
The train started in 1991, is a flagship project of the Impact India Foundation an NGO and Indian Railways. Since
then, it has traveled across the country, providing medical aid to poor patients free of cost by experts from India
and foreign countries.
North Tripura DM, Dr. Raveel Hamendra Kumar addressing a press meet on December 15 informed the arrival of Life Line Express Train in Churaibari station.
This project is being organized jointly by state government and Indian Railways supported by Bharat Petroleum under the banner of Impact India Foundation.
He said the hospital train is equipped with a state-of-the-art operation theater and has surgeons on board where
people will be treated for dental, mouth, jaw, eye, ear, nose, throat ailments, besides blood sugar, High and Low
Blood Pressure, epilepsy, breast and uterus cancer. Cataract, dental, jaw, ear, polio and other operations
will also be performed by the doctors and added that the patients, who undergo operations, would be provided
with residential facility along with an attendant and food free of cost.
