Agartala, February 23, 2019: Even though the State Government is committed to combat drug and addiction menace – however, people of Teliamura under Khowai district in Tripura are worried about growing influence of drug peddlers. Frustrated at alleged inaction against drug peddlers and drug addicts, local people have recently caught alleged drug traders and users red handed at two different places under Teliamura Police Station.
“Future of our young people is at stake because growing incidences of drug abuses – it has become a threat for our youths. As Police did not take proper actions we are keeping a vigil in our areas and on Thursday, we caught three Heroin addicts red handed”, said a resident of Teliamura.
Local sources said, on Thursday last, residents noticed three youths – Deepjyoti Debbarma (20), Habib Mian (18) and Deepak Das (27) inside an abandoned building of Old Hospital and found them taking Heroin. People caught the three persons – later Police arrested the three drug users.
On earlier occasion, people caught two drug peddlers with drugs and cash on Wednesday last. Total 12 gm Heroin and cash Rs 35000 were seized from the possession of two youths – Dipak Das (34) of Rajnagar village in Teliamura and Ebel Hrankhal (23) of Narayanpur under Gandachhera subdivision. Local people caught duo red handed at Hrankhal Para,. Police arrested both Dipak and Ebel Hrankhal.
