Agartala, July 8, 2019: Tripura Pradesh Congress president Pradyot Kishore Debarma today raised pitch against BJP on political violence and urged Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb to arrange an all party meeting immediately to discuss about ongoing violent political situation. Pradyot Kishore, however, asserted that Congress would keep on democratic fighting despite intimidation and violence.
Addressing a press meet today at Congress Bhawan, the TPCC president said, “Democracy was never under so much threat as it is now under BJP rule.”
Taking a jibe at the Chief Minister, Pradyot Kishore said, “Every now and then, Biplab Kumar Deb speaks of making Tripura a model state in three years, but the reality is, law and order situation has collapsed in the entire state. The state has now become number one politically violent state in North East”.
Speaking about the scheduled three tier panchayat elections slated to be held on July 27, he said BJP workers unleashed a terror reign on opposition party workers. Opposition candidates were not allowed to file nominations in many places. Today was the last day of filing nominations, Congress Candidates including some senior leaders were assaulted in front of Police officers at several places. At least, twenty Congress workers were injured in different parts of state due to political violence recently.
“What is happening in Tripura is just the replicate of Bangladesh and West Bengal. The bike squads of BJP are creating total lawlessness in the state”, alleged PCC president. Continuing his verbal tirade against BJP, he said, Congress will fight back democratically in coming days. Congress has already emerged as the opposition party- but, CPM even after remaining in power for 25 years have vanished from the state within one year.
Senior Congress leader Gopal Roy, Pijush Kanti Biswas, Tapas Deb and Laxmi Nag was present in the press meet.
