Udaipur/Agartala, May 9, 2025 – Tripura paid heartfelt tribute to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary with a series of grand cultural and educational events across the state on Friday, celebrating the timeless legacy of the Nobel laureate poet, philosopher, and cultural icon.
From a state-level ceremony in Udaipur’s Gomati district to a vibrant cultural evening in Agartala and other places across the State, the day was marked by musical performances, speeches, and competitions that underscored Tagore’s enduring influence on Indian society and Tripura’s deep historical connection with him.

In Gomati district, the School Education Department organized a state-level celebration at Rajarshi Hall in Udaipur, drawing students, educators, and dignitaries to honor Tagore’s contributions to literature, education, and national unity.
The event was inaugurated by State Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister delivered a speech emphasizing the relevance of Tagore’s philosophy in today’s world.
“Rabindranath Tagore’s ideals have enriched our society and must never be forgotten,” Noatia said.
“Tagore’s writings inspire us to dedicate ourselves to the nation’s service and strengthen the bonds of unity. We must ensure his thoughts reach the younger generation.”

Noatia also highlighted the historical ties between Tagore and Tripura, noting that the poet visited the state seven times and shared a profound connection with Tripura’s royal family.
His visits left an indelible mark, influencing the state’s cultural and intellectual landscape.
The event saw participation from other prominent figures, including MLA Jitendra Majumdar, who urged students to delve into Tagore’s biography to understand his multifaceted contributions.
Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Shitalchandra Majumdar and Joint Director of the School Education Department Utpal Chakraborty also addressed the gathering, while special speaker Manish Rudrapal provided an insightful overview of Tagore’s life and works.
The ceremony began with a poignant tribute as guests, including Acting District Education Officer Bikash Nath and Gomati Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Debaroy, offered garlands and flowers at Tagore’s portrait.
Nath delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for a day filled with cultural performances and intellectual reflection.
Students from various schools across Gomati district captivated the audience with vibrant performances of Rabindra dance, music, and recitations, showcasing Tagore’s artistic legacy.

Cultural Evening in Agartala
In Agartala, the Department of Information and Culture hosted a mesmerizing cultural evening at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan today, bringing together artists and enthusiasts to celebrate Tagore’s artistic genius.
The event featured performances by artists from 34 cultural organizations, who presented a rich repertoire of Rabindra dance, songs, and recitations, captivating the audience with their grace and emotional depth.
The cultural evening was attended by Bimbisar Bhattacharya, the Director of the Department of Information and Culture, Subrata Chakraborty, Vice Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee, and renowned Rabindra Sangeet artist Kamal Baran Chakraborty.

Their presence highlighted the state’s commitment to preserving and promoting Tagore’s cultural heritage.
The performances, ranging from soulful renditions of Tagore’s songs to evocative recitations of his poetry, highlighted the timeless appeal of his works and their ability to resonate across generations.
Celebration at Teliamura
A vibrant celebration of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary was held today at Chitrangada Kalakendra in Teliamura, organized jointly by the Sub-Divisional Information and Culture Office and Teliamura Municipal Council.
The chief guest, Tripura Legislative Assembly Chief Whip and local MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, was joined by notable dignitaries, including Teliamura Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Madhusudan Roy, Chairperson of the Cultural Standing Committee Achintya Bhattacharya, Deputy CEO of Teliamura Municipal Council Amit Roy Chowdhury, and Senior Information Officer of the Sub-Divisional Information and Culture Office Mithun Dutta, among others.
The event commenced with guests paying tribute by offering floral tributes at a marble statue of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.
Artists from various cultural organizations in the subdivision, along with students from local schools, performed music, dance, and recitations.
Additionally, a “Sit and Draw” competition was organized to mark the occasion. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the competition.
Kabi Pranam at Sabroom
The Sub-Divisional Information and Culture Office organized a “Kabi Pranam” (Tribute to the Poet) event this morning at the Sabroom Town Hall premises.
The program began with a Prabhat Pheri (morning procession) led by local artists.
Dignitaries present included Sabroom Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Rama Poddar De, Vice Chairperson Deepak Das, and ICO of the Sub-Divisional Information and Culture Office Rupak Acharyya, among others.
In the evening, local artists presented a captivating cultural program at the Baishakhi Mela stage in Melarmath, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.
