Pathetic road condition in a Tripura village causing dissent among locals. The only road connecting Kaloi Para in Teliamura remains in disrepair for three decades, causing daily hardship and prompting villagers to consider protests and election boycotts.
Teliamura (Tripura) June 25: For over three decades, the residents of Kaloi Para under Teliamura’s Brahmachhara Panchayat in Tripura have been living a nightmare on what they call a “road to nowhere.”
This vital road, the sole link for approximately 130 Kalai tribal families and their Bengali neighbors to Teliamura town and beyond, has crumbled into an impassable stretch of neglect, sparking widespread frustration and desperate pleas for action.
A Road to Ruin
The main road in Kaloi Para, a predominantly agricultural village within the Krishnapur Assembly constituency, has been in a deplorable state for generations.
Villagers recounted that its last semblance of good condition was during the way-back Congress-TUJS coalition government’s tenure.
Since then, through successive Left Front and current state governments, their cries for repair have seemingly fallen on deaf ears.
“We’ve been begging for this road to be fixed since the Left government first came to power,” lamented one exasperated resident. “No matter who is in charge, our pleas are ignored.”
Daily Life a Hazardous Journey
The deteriorating road isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a daily hazard. With the monsoon season approaching, villagers dread the already treacherous conditions becoming even more perilous.
Accidents are common, with students, the elderly, and even sick patients struggling to navigate the broken terrain. Accessing vital medical facilities becomes a harrowing ordeal.
The presence of government and private educational institutions along this very road underscores the urgent need for repairs, yet their calls, too, have gone unanswered.
Perhaps most alarmingly, residents report that emergency services, including the fire department, are often unable to reach the area when disaster strikes.
Empty Promises and Growing Desperation
Despite multiple appeals to elected representatives and local leaders, residents claim they’ve received nothing but empty assurances. The neglect has fostered a deep sense of betrayal and resentment within the community.
“They make promises, but nothing ever changes,” a villager stated, highlighting the long-standing frustration. “We’ve had enough.”
Having exhausted all other avenues, the residents of Kaloi Para have now turned to the media as a last resort, hoping to finally amplify their voices and pressure authorities into action.
A Warning Shot
The community’s patience has worn thin. They are appealing to the government for the immediate repair of the road.

Their message is clear and unequivocal: if their demands are not met, they are prepared to take drastic measures. This includes the possibility of blocking the road or even boycotting future elections in protest.
The plight of Kaloi Para serves as a stark reminder of how critical infrastructure directly impacts the lives and well-being of citizens. Will the government finally heed their desperate call and pave the way for a safer, more connected future for these long-suffering villagers?
