Agartala (Tripura), July 11: In a landmark health initiative, the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists & Leprologists (IADVL) is set to host over 700 free Skin Health Camps and Public Awareness Programs across India on July 13, 2025 including in Tripura.
This massive nationwide campaign, described as an International Book of Records Attempt, marks a significant stride in community dermatological outreach and awareness.
The campaign, themed “No Health Without Skin Health,” is aimed at promoting the importance of skin, hair, nail, and genital health as a cornerstone of overall well-being. With over 18,200 certified dermatologists on its roster, IADVL—the largest professional dermatology body in India and the second-largest globally—is spearheading this drive to bring expert consultation and awareness to the public free of cost.
NEIADVL Joins National Effort: Special Camps in Agartala
As part of this mega campaign, the North East India branch of IADVL (NEIADVL) will conduct multiple camps across the region. In Agartala, camps will be held at two major locations:
Belabar Slum Area, Dukli Block (starting at 10:00 AM)
Apnaghar Old Age Home, Airport Road (starting at 2:00 PM)
These camps will focus on free skin consultations, early detection of diseases, and educational outreach on issues ranging from common fungal infections to chronic conditions like vitiligo, psoriasis, and leprosy.
Key Objectives of the Campaign:
Provide free skin, hair, nail, and genital consultations to urban and rural populations.
Educate the public about safe dermatological practices, highlighting the dangers of self-medication and cosmetic quackery.
Promote scientific treatment and reduce stigma around conditions like vitiligo, psoriasis, leprosy, and HIV/AIDS.
Raise awareness on the misuse of topical steroids, which has contributed to India’s growing fungal infection epidemic.
Skin Health – A National Concern
IADVL stresses that skin health is not merely cosmetic; untreated dermatological issues can severely impact mental health, social well-being, sexual health, and productivity. Many conditions, such as fungal infections and psoriasis, are becoming harder to treat due to rampant misuse of over-the-counter steroid creams, often advertised misleadingly for quick relief.

The campaign will debunk myths and push for the rational use of medications, especially in a country where easy access to combination creams has led to Tinea incognito—a chronic fungal condition masked by inappropriate steroid use.
Disease-Specific Messages
Vitiligo: Not contagious or life-limiting. Requires accurate diagnosis and scientific treatment.
Psoriasis: An autoimmune disease that can lead to arthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular issues if left untreated.
Leprosy: A curable bacterial infection, not a curse. Early detection prevents nerve damage and disabilities.
HIV/AIDS: Now a manageable condition with timely diagnosis and Antiretroviral Therapy (ART). It is not transmitted through casual contact.
Genital Hygiene Awareness
The campaign also emphasizes early hygiene education among children and adults to prevent infections and promote reproductive health. Simple habits like using lukewarm water and avoiding harsh antiseptics can prevent a range of dermatological and urogenital problems.
Appeal to the Public and Media
Dr. Shyamanta Barua (President, NEIADVL) and Dr. Gautam Mazumder (Secretary, NEIADVL) urged media houses to amplify this campaign to ensure wider outreach.
