Tour goes wrong: Tripura Youth ‘kidnapped’ in Bangladesh, Rs 1 lakh ransom demanded

A resident of South Tripura District has reportedly been kidnapped while legally visiting Bangladesh. The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of Rs 1 lakh for his safe release. The victim’s wife, facing extreme distress, turned to the local police for help, only to be met with alleged indifference from the Police and other concerned personnel, leaving the family in a state of despair.

Chailafru Mog, a resident of Radhanagar in Rajnagar Block, Tripura, had travelled to Bangladesh through the Belonia Integrated Check Post (ICP) on September 13, intending for a short, peaceful visit. Mog, a husband and father, was due to return to India on Wednesday, but tragedy struck when he was kidnapped on his way back.

Chailafru Mog’s wife remains heartbroken and lost. As a mother of three, she is now left to navigate the horrifying uncertainty of whether her husband will return home safely. With no clear pathway for resolution, she continues to plead for help from the administration, holding on to the hope that her husband will be rescued before it’s too late.

Tripura-Youth-Kidnapped-BangladeshEarly Wednesday morning, Mog’s wife, Malaifru, received a phone call from the abductors, who demanded Rs 1 lakh in ransom for her husband’s release. Panicked and unsure of what to do, Malaifru rushed to the Belonia Police Station to seek help, hoping the authorities would step in to rescue her husband. However, her nightmare worsened when the police, instead of offering assistance, allegedly remained indifferent and did not cooperate with the distressed woman.

Sources close to the matter report that Malaifru was mocked and dismissed by the police, who referred to her as “crazy.” Shocked at the attitude of the Police, the distraught wife broke down in tears at the police station.

This incident has sparked widespread concern, as many are left questioning the role of law enforcement in such dire situations.

“If the police refuse to assist in a situation as serious as kidnapping, where can ordinary people turn for help?” a local resident commented.

Malaifru, feeling abandoned by the authorities, sought help elsewhere. She visited the Muhurighat ICP in-charge and narrated the entire incident. In a bid to assist, the in-charge directed her to a staff member, Sudhan Sur, working in a Group D position. She was advised to approach the Bangladesh immigration officials stationed near the Muhurighat border gate.

However, her quest for help was met with further hostility. While at the border, a BSF constable, allegedly unaware of the seriousness of the situation, verbally abused Sudhan Sur and pushed both the ICP staff and Malaifru away from the gate. Despite being informed of the gravity of the matter, the constable refused to cooperate.

What followed was an intense argument between the BSF constable and the ICP staff. According to eyewitnesses, the BSF constable went so far as to attempt a physical assault on Sudhan Sur, right in front of the ICP in charge. Shocked by this violent outburst, the ICP in charge later filed an official complaint at the Belonia police station, accusing the BSF constable of misconduct and obstruction.

Amid this chaos, Chailafru Mog’s wife remains heartbroken and lost. As a mother of three, she is now left to navigate the horrifying uncertainty of whether her husband will return home safely. With no clear pathway for resolution, she continues to plead for help from the administration, holding on to the hope that her husband will be rescued before it’s too late.
