A religious discourse was held at Gandachhara Pancha Ratna Janakalyan Buddha Bihar in Dhalai District of Tripura on Sunday to decide the date of the cremation ceremony of Venerable Ratnapriya Mahathero, the chief monk of the Raima Valley Bhikkhu Sangha.
The chief monk of the Raima Valley Bhikkhu Sangha passed away in Agartala on August 25 after a suffering from illness.
Present at the meeting were members of the Raima Valley Bhikkhu Sangha and the Agere Sholo Ani Raima Valley Buddhist Welfare Society.
It was decided in the meeting that the mortal remains of the chief monk would be taken on a procession through various areas of Gandachhara Sub-division on November 23, and the final rites would be performed at Nakkachhara Triratna Buddha Bihar on November 24.
People of all faiths have been requested to attend the cremation ceremony of the chief monk.
It may be noted that Venerable Ratnapriya Mahathero had been suffering from physical ailments for the past three to four months. He was successively admitted to Gandachhara Sub-divisional Hospital, Gomati District Hospital, Dhalai District Hospital, and GB Hospital in Agartala.
He passed away on August 25 while undergoing treatment at GB Hospital. Since his passing, his body has been kept at Nakkachhara Triratna Buddha Bihar, adjacent to the Dumbur reservoir. Hundreds of Buddhists have visited the site daily to pay their respects to the revered monk.
The community is mourning the loss of a spiritual leader who was deeply respected and admired for his wisdom and compassion.
