Tripura’s Chief Electoral Officer convened a meeting with media elders to underscore their vital role in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections and maintaining public trust through timely, accurate information.
Agartala (Tripura), June 20: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for Tripura on Friday (June 20) hosted a crucial consultation meeting with leading editors and representatives from the state’s print, electronic, and web media.
Held at the State Guest House in Agartala, the gathering aimed to foster collaboration and ensure accurate information dissemination ahead of upcoming elections.
The meeting saw the presence of Chief Electoral Officer Brijesh Pandey, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Ushajen Mog, and Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Bimbisar Bhattacharya.
A wide array of media organizations were represented, underscoring the importance of the initiative.
During the discussion, CEO Brijesh Pandey highlighted the pivotal role of the media in swiftly and accessibly delivering information to the public.
He emphasized that maintaining free, fair, and transparent elections necessitates the enforcement of various rules and laws. Pandey further noted that the Election Commission of India has issued guidelines for regular interactions between the CEO’s office and the media.
This proactive approach, he explained, is crucial in preventing the spread of negative perceptions among the public.
He stressed the importance of such consultation meetings for maintaining strong coordination between media outlets and election management departments.
Several prominent journalists, including Manas Pal, Jayanta Debnath, Abhishek Dey, Sujit Dey, Manisha Pal Chowdhury, Hirak Gupta, and Sandeep Biswas, also addressed the attendees, sharing their perspectives.
Representatives from major media houses such as All India Radio, Doordarshan Tripura, Headlines Tripura, News Vanguard, Tripura Times, Manush Patrika, News Today, TripuraIndia.com, and TripuraToday.com were also present.

The event concluded with the Chief Electoral Officer distributing a booklet titled “India Votes – A Saga of Democracy” to all participants, reinforcing the democratic spirit.
