Agartala April 3: The state government is striving relentlessly for the development of sports sector. Advanced infrastructure is being developed for the budding sports talents of the state.
This year’s state budget had also given special emphasis on sports sector. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated this today after inaugurating the newly built synthetic football turf, synthetic athletics track and synthetic hockey ground at the Dasarath Deb Sports Complex at Badharghat, Agartala.
It is worth mentioning that the synthetic athletics track was dedicated to the sports personality late Deba Bhakti Jamatia, synthetic hockey ground was dedicated to late Swadesh Priya Nandi and the synthetic football turf was dedicated to late Pratul Bhattacharya.
Addressing the gathering the Chief Minister said, the state government is committed to building necessary facilities and infrastructure to facilitate grooming of the state’s budding talents.
Towards this direction, sports infrastructure is being developed with specific planning across the state. He said, undaunted determination, will power and efforts can bring success in any field.
The true manifestation of this is our Padma Shri Olympian gymnast Deepa Karmakar. He said, sports is a significant medium to keep the young generation away from drugs.
Because, healthy mind helps in building healthy body. Life philosophy can be realized through sports activities.
The Chief Minister said, the state government has taken various measures to remember and show due respect to the sports personalities of the state who have brought fame to the state.
That is why various sports facilities are being dedicated to their names.
In context of the contribution of late Deba Bhakti Jamatia, late Swadesh Priya Nandi and late Pratul Bhattacharya in the field of sports, the Chief Minister said that their contribution would be remembered by the future generations and the sports lovers for ever.
The Chief Minister also said, advanced sports facilities would also be developed at Bholagiri, Agartala, for the convenience of the sports persons.
Moreover, the CM highlighted his personal experience in sports and with sports persons.
In his welcome address, youth affairs and sports minister Tinku Roy said, several synthetic football turfs, tennis court, flood light, swimming pool, basket ball court, indoor hall etc. have been constructed in the state for the development of sports infrastructure.
Resultantly players from the state are seeing success in different sports. This year’s state budget also had contained planning for development of new sports infrastructure facilities.
Not only that, the state government has also taken initiative to honour the former sports personalities of the state.

At the event vote of thanks was given by the secretary of youth affairs and sports department Apurba Roy. The programme was also attended by MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, director of youth affairs and sports department Satyabrata Nath, and Padma Shri Olympian Deepa Karmakar.
The family members of the noted sports persons like late Deba Bhakti Jamatia, late Swadesh Priya Nandi and late Pratul Bhattacharya, were felicitated at the programme with the Chief Minister handing over mementoes to them.
Besides, the Chief Minister launched a health insurance scheme for the sports persons and handed over insurance documents to some of them.
