Major steps for quality education
Agartala: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering quality education in Tripura, outlining a range of initiatives undertaken by the Education Department.
In a written response to a query about the Education Department during the Assembly session on Wednesday, Dr. Saha detailed the extensive measures implemented to enhance educational standards across the state.
Teacher Recruitment Boosts Education Quality
As a cornerstone of these efforts, the state has recruited 4,656 teachers over the past five financial years under the Right to Primary Education framework.
Dr. Saha noted that the Teachers Recruitment Board Tripura (TRBT) has prioritized hiring Teacher Eligibility Test (TET)-qualified candidates, significantly improving teaching quality.
This includes 3,615 graduate teachers and 1,041 non-graduate teachers appointed during this period.
Nipun Tripura Mission: A Focus on Early Learning
The Chief Minister highlighted the launch of the Nipun Tripura Mission on November 18, 2022, aimed at ensuring quality education for students from pre-primary to Class II.
Under this initiative, 10,182 primary teachers have received training in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), promoting activity-based learning in classrooms.
To support effective implementation, 200 Block Resource Persons and Cluster Resource Persons have been trained as master trainers, while 2,648 teachers have been equipped to deliver early childhood care and education.
Holistic Support for Young Learners
Beyond academics, the state provides pre-primary students with play equipment to foster engagement, alongside regular parent-teacher meetings to strengthen school-community ties.

PM-Poshan scheme in Tripura
Under the PM-Poshan scheme, all students from Class I to VIII in government, government-aided schools, and madrasas receive cooked meals on every school day.
In a targeted effort, 2,998 students from 24 schools in economically disadvantaged tea garden areas of West Tripura and Unakoti districts are provided milk.
Moreover, in Dhalai district—an aspirational district—47,792 students from pre-primary to Class VIII across all government and government-aided schools and madrasas receive breakfast daily on a pilot basis, complementing mid-day meals.
Encouraging Innovative Teaching
Dr. Saha also underscored efforts to inspire creativity among educators.
For the second consecutive year, the state hosted the State-Level Teaching-Learning Material Exhibition and Competition, showcasing over 160 district-selected, low-cost, hands-on teaching aids.
Approximately 7,000 teachers participated, reflecting widespread enthusiasm for innovative pedagogy.
Vidyasetu: Bridging the Learning Gap
To support students entering Class I, the state introduced the Vidyasetu Module, a 9-week bridge course aligned with NCERT guidelines, designed to bring learners to grade-appropriate levels.
In 2024, an NCERT delegation evaluated the module’s impact through baseline and endline assessments, commending the state’s execution of the Nipun Mission.
For pre-primary students, new curricula, co-curricular activities, workbooks, and teaching-learning materials have been introduced to enrich their educational experience.
