Agartala, September 22, 2019: Stage is ready for holding by-poll at Badarghat Assembly constituency on September 23 (Monday). Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair elections. Total 71 polling stations have been set up and total number of voters in the constituency is 57,906. Ruling BJP and Opposition – CPIM and Congress are pitched in the battle with full forces. Top brass of all the three parties campaigned hard to woo the voters.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed at Siddhi Ashram following a clash this evening. However administration swung into action and massive security arrangements were put in place to control the situation.
According to reports, the situation continued to deteriorate at Siddhi Ashram since this evening following attack on a local political leader by some unidentified miscreants. The incident threatened to be turned into a serious political turmoil. Tension gripped the entire area as security personnel tightened security.
Local PS – Amtali Police Station said that security personnel in adequate numbers were deployed to avoid any further incident. However, police could not confirm about the details of the attack.
In another incident, some local CPI-M and Congress supporters, in apprehension of rigging by ruling party activists on the poll day, today staged a road blockade at Siddhi Ashram – Agartala Railway Station road. Later on, Congress leader Subal Bhowmik, party’s candidate for bye-polls Ratan Chandra Das and CPI-M candidate Bulti Biswas along with Subrata Chakraborty and others also joined the protest. They also alleged that some of the CPI-M men, who were engaged in making a booth office, were attacked by the miscreants. However, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
