Agartala, August 22, 2019: Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Barma held unmindful treatment of nature by people as one of the prime factors responsible for rapid climate change. Speaking at an orientation programme in Agartala today Jishnu Dev Barma, who who also holds the charge of Science & Technology and Environment department said, misuse of natural resources, unorganized garbage disposal system, lack of awareness and rapidly rising deforestation are the main reason behind the catastrophic climate change.
“In yesteryears we have seen massive exploitation of nature for the sake of development. But, now we have to change this mindset. The development strategy, nowadays, should be sustainable—without harming the nature” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
On the increasing water scarcity, he said, earlier attention on proper water distribution system. But now our focus areas should be water conservation and proper utilization of water resources. And to achieve that, students, higher officials and general people from every walk of life should come forward, he added.
Environmentalist H Rabindranath who came from Institute of Technology of Bengaluru discussed several issues related to global warming and problems triggered by climate change.
