Agartala, October 16, 2019: Anticipatory bail plea of former PWD Minister of Tripura, Badal Choudhury was rejected and he is going to be arrested on Rs 600 crore scam anytime as Police launched intense hunt.
It is unprecedented in the history of Tripura that a former Minister is going to be arrested for corruption charges. Badal Choudhury along with several other leaders – during emergency period – was arrested, but that was purely on Political ground. This time, Badal Choudhury is, once again, staring at being arrested but only difference is that it is for alleged corruption. In this alleged scam, Police had arrested former Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik. Available information suggest that former Chief Secretary of the State YP Singh is also under police scanner.
After day long anticipation and speculation today, the District and Sessions Court, West Tripura rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Choudhury following a prolonged hearing. Large crowd was present in the Court premises – and tight security arrangements were in place. Security personnel were also present near CPI-M Party Head Quarters in Melarmath.
As clock moved closer to midnight, the announcement of bail rejection came.This will allow Police to arrest the former Minister relating to a Rs 600 crore PWD scam. Since evening people were inquiring about fate of Badal Chowdhury. Public curiosity was notable. Additional forces were deployed near Mealrmath.
Police had searched CPIM Party Headquarters at Melarmath and conducted search operations in other places – but there was no trace of Choudhury. Meanwhile, another accused in the scam, former Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmick had already been arrested and sent to jail custody.
