The State Election Commission of Tripura declared that the Panchayat elections will be held on August 8, with the counting of votes scheduled for August 12. This announcement brings an end to weeks of speculation regarding the election dates.
On Wednesday, the State Election Commissioner provided details about the upcoming elections. The official notification for the Panchayat polls will be issued on Thursday (July 11). Candidates interested in contesting the elections must submit their nominations by July 18, with the scrutiny of these nominations set for July 19. The final date for the withdrawal of candidature is July 22, and the entire election process should be completed by August 17.
Voting will be conducted using ballot papers, which will be color-coded for easy identification: white for Gram Panchayats, pink for Panchayat Samitis, and green for Zilla Parishads.
The scale of the elections is significant, with a total of 3,517 constituencies and 6,370 seats across 606 Gram Panchayats, 35 Panchayat Samitis with 423 constituencies and seats, and 8 Zilla Parishads encompassing 116 constituencies and seats.
According to the final electoral rolls, there are 12,94,153 registered voters, comprising 6,58,445 males, 6,35,697 females, and 11 others, who are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming polls.
The elections will be conducted across 2,650 polling stations spread throughout the state. The State Election Commissioner emphasized the importance of a fair and transparent electoral process, highlighting the extensive preparations undertaken to facilitate a successful election.
As the state braces for the Panchayat elections, the focus will be on ensuring that the democratic process is upheld, providing a platform for the people of Tripura to exercise their electoral rights and contribute to the governance at the grassroots level.
The opposition party leaders have already urged the administration to ensure the Opposition candidates can smoothly submit their nominations.
