As the situation in Manipur became volatile, Government of Tripura got in touch with the Manipur Government ensuring safety of students of Tripura studying in Manipur. The Tripura government also opened a helpline for its students on Thursday (May 4).
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inquired about the students from Tripura studying in Manipur.
In a social media post, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha wrote, “The Government of Tripura was in constant touch with the Government of Manipur to ensure the well-being of all the students belonging to Tripura”.
Another social media post update from Dr Saha read, “The Government of Tripura opened helpline numbers for providing support on 24×7 basis to the residents of Tripura with respect to disturbance in Manipur.
The helplines are- ERSS 112, State Emergency Operation Centre: 1070/ 0381-2416045/ 2416241 and Whatsapp number: 8787676210″.
Dr Manik Saha directed the state administration contact the Manipur administration and accordingly the State Administration got in touch with the administration of Manipur regarding the safety of the state’s students there.
As many students from Tripura are studying at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Medical Education director of Tripura, Dr. HP Sharma had a telephonic discussion with the Principal of RIMS, Manipur. Dr Sharma was informed that the students of Tripura were safe.
Besides, in a press release, Janjati Morcha of State BJP informed the media they had also launched a helpline especially for the Janajati students who need assistance.
The situation in Manipur turned volatile after thousands turned up for the ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ on Wednesday (May 3) to oppose the demand for inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
As the situation continue to remain volatile, tension prevails among the parents of the students of the State studying in violence hit Manipur.
With the prompt action by the Tripura Chief Minister and the State Administration, at least, brought some solace for the anxious parents.
“Knowing that the Chief Minister is inquiring about our lads is a big relief. We believe, in case of emergency, steps will be taken to bring back students from trouble torn Manipur” , commented a guardian of a student studying in RIMS, Manipur.
