Agartala, October 15, 2019: In what seems to a grand Diwali gift for Tripura sports lovers, Asish Bhowmik of the State was appointed as the Chief Curator of BCCI succeeding Daljit Singh. Bhowmik was serving as the Chief Curator of BCCI Eastern Zone. As the news spread, Sports lovers, particularly Cricket fans expressed utter satisfaction at his appointment at National level. Social media platform was abuzz with congratulatory messages for Bhowmik.
Expressing his satisfaction, Bhowmik said, this is a proud moment for me and also for the State. “It seems I have done something for making my State (Tripura) proud”, he commented.
When asked for his views on prospect of cricket in Tripura, Bhowmik said that his achievement at the national level proved that if someone was doing his or her duty with sincerity and diligence, success would not remain far ahead. “My suggestion to Tripura cricketers would be that they should think big – of playing national and international matches,” Bhowmik said.
Notably, Bhowmik had perused his curator course in the year of 1997. In the year of 2012 Bhowmik completed his course from BCCI and was appointed as the chief curator of eastern zone in the same year. He had also topped the national level exam of pitch curator held in the year of 2016. And, later he was appointed as faculty member in the National Cricket Academy for pitch curators.
Asish Bhowmik, who has designed the pitch of recently concluded Test Match between India and South Africa, is now at Ranchi for the preparations of next test.
In his career, he became part of about 50 international matches which included world cup final, T20 world cup final, IPL final and many more state level tournaments.
Meanwhile, Daljit Singh retired from his post in September last. And, Bhowmik was selected from three shortlisted candidates—Tapash Chatterjee of central zone, Sunil Chowhan from Dharamshala and himself from East zone.
