Agartala, September 03, 2019: Jampui Mizo Convention (MC) agreed to put its September 4 Bandh on temporary suspension after Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb offered a bilateral talk on the issue of the MC’s 40 year-long demand of Jampui Hill Autonomous Regional Council. The Chief Minister also agreed to attend to the Convention’s demand for immediate repair of the hill road for better connectivity.
The bilateral talk is expected to take place at the Secretariat at any date between September 4-6 after the conclusion of the current session of the State Assembly.
“The people of Jampui Hill are happy with the government’s unconditional offer of talks, they accept it and are willing to try to test the seriousness of the government on the issue”, states Dr Zairemthiama Pachuau, General Secretary of Mizo Convention.
“We expect that the talk will be open, frank, cordial, and productive to the extent of establishing a concrete groundwork for the future course of action towards the creation of Regional Council in the Hill”.
