The second phase of permanent Bru Reang refugee re-settlement in Tripura has commenced on Monday.
On the first day of the second phase rehabilitation, a total of 97 families have been rehabilitated from the refugee camps in Kanchanpur of North Tripura district to two locations in Dhalai district, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar tweeted this on his official handle.
“Delighted to inform that second phase of the rehabilitation process for the Bru families from Kanchanpur started today. A t 97 families were shifted to Dhalai district. I extend my heartfelt wishes to them,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
Deb also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for making this happen amid COVID19 pandemic. Deb feels that the initiative would ensure that Bru families live a life of dignity and opportunity.
“I wholeheartedly thank Hon’ble PM Sri @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble HM Shri @AmitShah ji for making the resettlement possible despite the challenges of COVID-19, it will ensure that my Bru brothers and sisters can live a life of dignity & opportunity,” Deb tweeted.
Meanwhile, SDM Kanchanpur Chandni Chandran said, “As many as 495 Bru families have so far been rehabilitated in two locations of Dhalai district—300 families in Haduklapara and 195 families in Bongophapara. More 105 families will soon be shifted to Bongophapara.”

As per the historic quadripartite agreement signed between the Government of Tripura, Government of Mizoram, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the representatives of Bru refugees, the permanent settlement of Bru people in Tripura had started on April 13 last.
The Bru Reang Tribal families were sheltered in seven relief camps in North Tripura after they fled from Mizoram 24 years ago following an ethnic strife in the adjoining state.
