Miscreants looted a Food Corporation of India (FCI) warehouse at Dharmanagar in North Tripura District and fled away with 145 sacks of rice on Saturday late night. However, North District Police were successful in arresting the miscreants involved in looting rice sacks on Sunday morning.
“North District Police on Sunday morning held six persons in connection with the looting of FCI godown at Dharmanagar. At least 145 rice sacks were looted from an FCI godown on Saturday late-night”, Police sources said.
“Today morning we have received a complaint that yesterday late night at least 145 sacks of rice were looted from an FCI godown. Based on this complaint police registered a case,” said North Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanupada Chakraborty.
He told reporters, “During the course of our investigation we learned that the looted rice sacks are kept at one Mritunjoy Paul’s house at Jora Kalvart area in Krishnapur under North District. Following this we searched the accused house to recover the looted rice sacks and later we arrested him along with others involved with the incident.”
According to Police sources, all the stolen sacks of rice were recovered.
The accused persons who were arrested identified as Md Suraj Ahamed (39), Md Mustafa Ahamed (25), Md Rahul Ahamed (25), Md Billal Rahaman (32), Md Kamrul Islam (26), Mrithunjoy Paul (24).
Intriguing it may sound, the FCI warehouse had no CCTV installed. Moreover, out 18 guards, two guards were on-duty on Saturday night. Despite the presence of two guards miscreants committed the theft and fled away with 145 sacks of rice. Role of the guards is also under scanner, local sources said.
