A girl of Tripura who along with her parents is living in Bangaluru now, demonstrated an inspiring commitment and a sense of responsibility to reach out to Covid affected people of her own State, Tripura as well as Bengaluru.
As the human society is reeling under Corona menace for second successive year, the girl, Orna decided to join the battle and extend help to distressed people who are squirming under the evil spell of Covid19 second wave.
Her fifth birthday gift money was donated for the treatment of an ailing child of her age. Reading stories about the special children of Vaidehi Rehabilitation Centre, helping out the flood victims of Chennai – this is how this little girl was growing up.
Parents, Father Samriddhi Bhattacharjee and Mother Dr. Ananya who hail from Agartala and now settled in Bangalore, had always been a support to her.
When the second wave of Covid hit the country, Orna felt that she needed to do something to help out the victims.
In her words, “Mother was receiving calls from people who were suffering like someone was not getting a bed in hospital, someone was having fever etc. And the two words which struck me were oxygen and temperature. My parents always donate for different reasons, but I wanted to do something on my own. I started crowd funding with the help of an organization called Milaap. I could collect Rs 2.5 lakh. I knew that affluent people can buy oximeters and check oxygen levels at home but I was worried about the people who couldn’t afford it.
Thus, after collecting the fund, I contacted the Rotary Club of Agartala through a club in Bangalore and sent those essentials. It was also donated to two organizations of Bangalore.
Last year when Corona virus broke out for the first time in our country, I spent time by studying and practicing music. This year I am feeling glad to be able to help these people. I am grateful to all who helped me to raise this fund. “
Rotary Club Agartala member Shubhabrata Deb shared this inspiring story of this young girl and thus she was interviewed over the phone. She studies Science. Other than studies, she takes a keen interest in music, playing guitar, cooking Bengali as well as continental dishes, baking.
She is a member of her school, Mock United Nations Parliament team, the Editor in Chief of the school newsletter. Though she stays away from Agartala, she is deeply connected and feels happy to help the people of her state.
Shubhabrata Deb was extremely proud to share her tale. He further added that the Oximeters and Infrared thermometers donated by her were sent to clubs that were constantly working to help the COVID 19 victims.
