A 40-year old BJP elected Panchayat member Ram Mohan Tripura was allegedly killed by unknown assailants late on Monday night at Chailengta area under Dhalai district in Tripura. The incident sparked serious tension in the area.
According to local sources, last night a group of miscreants barged into the house of the deceased and abducted him. Later in the morning, local people spotted the blood-soaked dead body in the nearby forest area.
Soon a team of police reached the spot and recovered the dead body. “The incident took place at Debendra Roaja Para under the jurisdiction of Chailengta police station in Dhalai district. An official complaint was lodged with the police station soon after the incident. A total of nine people were named in the complaint who belonged to a rival political party”, a source in the police department said.
The local BJP leaders accused the TIPRA Motha and IPFT of the incident. “At a point in time, the deceased was invited to join TIPRA motha because of his influence in the area. He was given lucrative offers and positions in the rival party but he declined. His denial to betray the BJP seemed to have become the reason behind his killing”, BJP Chailengta Mondol President Mohanlal Chakma said.
Local BJP leaders said that a detailed report on the incident had been forwarded to BJP state headquarters for speedy action. “We believe the government and the party will stand beside the bereaved family and help them get justice”, Chakma added.
Officer-in-charge of Chailengta Police Station, Inspector Sura Kumar Tripura said, “Prima facie, it seems that some sharp weapons were used in the murder. The body has severe cut marks and is found in the pool of blood. After autopsy all doubts will be cleared”.
