Agartala Jan 21: In a celebration of sporting excellence, Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha hailed veteran cricketer Manishankar Murasing as a “shining example” of how perseverance, discipline, and self-belief can transform local talent into a national inspiration.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a high-profile felicitation ceremony organized by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) at Hotel Polo Towers on Tuesday. The event was held to celebrate Murasing’s historic milestone of reaching 100 Ranji Trophy matches, a feat that marks a new chapter in the state’s sporting history.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) at a city hotel, Dr Saha said Murasing’s journey has not only elevated Tripura’s cricketing profile but has also created a landmark moment in the state’s sports history.
He described the seasoned cricketer’s achievements as a source of motivation for young athletes aspiring to represent the state and the country.
Dr Saha highlighted the significance of cricket in India and its immense popularity among the youth, while stressing that success in sports demands sustained effort and disciplined conduct. He underscored the importance of balancing academics with sports, noting that physical activity plays a crucial role in strengthening both body and mind.
Encouraging budding players, the Chief Minister said that dedication, a structured lifestyle and clarity of goals are essential for long-term success. He also reiterated the state government’s commitment to sports development, stating that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, initiatives are being taken to improve sports infrastructure and provide advanced training facilities in Tripura.
Commending the Tripura Cricket Association for its continuous efforts to nurture cricket in the state, Dr Saha congratulated Manishankar Murasing and wished him continued success in his career. As part of the ceremony, a silver bat, ball and stump memento was presented to the cricketer in recognition of his contribution to the game.
The event was attended by TCA office-bearers, including Secretary Subrata Dey, Vice-President Upananda Debbarma, Joint Secretary Jayanta Dey and Treasurer Basudev Chakraborty, along with players and sports officials.
