A new chapter has been added in the history of Tripura Sports as 11 athletes hailing from the State have earned the honor of representing India in the upcoming 22nd Asia Masters Athletic Championship 2023, set to be held from November 8 to 12 in the Philippines.
The selected 11 players are : Biplab Majumder, Tapan Sheel, Narayan Ghosh, Devi Rani Das, Mamata Nath, Lucky Roy, Mitali Debnath, Archana Banik, Jaba Pal Dutta, Kabita Das, and Shefali Bardhan.
In an event organized at the Conference Hall of the State Sports Department on Sunday, these players were felicitated as they received their Indian team blazers, identification cards, and kit bags.
These 11 selected athletes were handpicked by the Masters Athletics Federation of India. The State sports lovers applauded the selection and hoping that the players could be able to make a distinct mark in the international arena.
The athletes from Tripura are all set to embark on their journey from Kolkata Airport to the Philippines on November 5, where they will get a chance to showcase their prowess on the international stage.
Today’s felicitation ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed individuals, including Pankaj Bihari Saha, who serves as the president of the State Masters Athletics Association. Joining him were Tapan Bhattacharya, the vice-president, as well as Chanchal Majumder and Swapan Saha.
The event also had the participation of Secretary Ashish Pal, along with Sameer Debbarma, Debashish Bhattacharya, Prabalkanti Dey, and representatives from the youth affairs and sports department. Additionally, sponsors and other dignitaries made their presence felt at this momentous occasion.
This group of athletes is now geared up to make their mark on the international sporting stage, carrying the hopes and aspirations of Tripura and India on their shoulders.
