Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee had a deep connection with Tripura – which many people are not aware of, said Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma.
He said, there was a conspiracy to include Tripura with Pakistan, at that time, Dr SP Mukherjee made Maharaja of Tripura Bir Bikram Manikya president in a meeting of Hindu Mahasabha. There are several documents relating to this. King of Tripura constructed the first Hindu temple in London, Varma said while speaking at a programme held to commemorate the 122nd Birth Anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in Agartala on Wednesday.
Tripura along with rest of the country observed the birth anniversary of the founder of Jana Sangh – Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in a befitting manner.
Jishnu Dev Verma accompanied by the state Information and Cultural Affairs Minister (ICA) Sushanta Chowdhury, among others paid a floral tribute to the portrait of Shyama Prasad here at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan on Wednesday.
Dev Varma said, Dr. Shyama Prasad was the first to call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ for the development of every individual in the country.
“Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee dreamt India to remain integral and gave top priority to the integrity and sovereignty of the country,” Dev Varma said, adding that Dr Mukherjee had fought to build a united India. He also tried to ensure that all the people of the country get justice and also thought of the country above all else, he said.
The ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was a patriotic and political figure and his self-sacrifice will be remembered in the history of our country. He sacrificed himself to protect the integrity and sovereignty of the country, he said.
