Agartala (Tripura), Feb 11: The weather in Tripura until 8:30 am on February 14, 2016 is expected to remain mostly cloudy with light rainfall. Day and night temperatures will remain unchanged, ranging between 28–30°C and 17–19°C, respectively.
Wind speed will be normal, blowing from the southeast at an average of 5 km/h.
Humidity may vary between 33% and 97%.
Agricultural Advisory:
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has provided the following recommendations for this period:
Boro Paddy: Weed out 10–15 days after transplanting seedlings to the main field. Apply 5 kg of urea per kani as top-dressing fertilizer. Maintain 2–3 cm of water in the field.
Potato: There is a high risk of blight disease. Spray Mancozeb 45 Indofil M at 5.2 grams every 5 days. As a precaution, mix 15 grams per liter of water and inspect fields morning and evening. For severe infestations, spray a mixture of Metalaxyl 8% with Mancozeb 64% or Cymoxanil 8% with Mancozeb 64%.
Rabi Maize: Arrange irrigation to control normal weed growth. Reduced weed control can affect yield. Cover the soil after irrigation.
Rabi Mustard, etc.: Cloudy weather may lead to aphid infestations in mustard fields, causing leaves to curl. Spray Monocrotophos or Imidacloprid at 2 ml per liter of water every 15 days to control aphids.
Banana: Due to lack of rainfall, soil moisture in high or medium-high lands may decrease drastically. Arrange irrigation promptly. Before that, clean the base of the plant, create a basin, and apply cow dung manure. Remove excess suckers if more than two or three are present at one spot.
Summer Brinjal and Tomato: After planting healthy, disease-free seedlings in the main field, arrange light irrigation.
Goat: There is a risk of pox disease, a viral infection, during this period. Small pimple-like spots may appear around the mouth or nose. Though it can spread across the body, it is more noticeable in hairless areas. Wash affected areas with potassium permanganate and contact the nearest veterinary hospital for antibiotic ointment or further treatment.
Fish: Due to low rainfall, water levels in many areas have dropped significantly. In ponds with irrigation facilities, add water to maintain a level of 1–1.5 meters. In areas without such facilities, harvest fish and market them, as there is considerable demand for small fish.
