In a pioneering move to promote eco-friendly and cost-effective cremation methods, the Tripura government is embarking on a significant transition towards power-operated crematoriums throughout the state.

This forward-looking initiative has received the green light from the government, resulting in the approval for the construction of 21 electric crematoriums across various urban areas in the state. , The crematoriums are slated to be built at a collective cost of Rs 23.36 crore.

Each of these state-of-the-art crematoriums is estimated to cost around Rs 1.1 crore. The primary goal of this project is in reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional cremation practices. Unlike traditional methods, electric crematoriums eliminate emissions of pollutants into the air, providing a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to the age-old ritual of bidding farewell to the departed.

An official press release issued on behalf of the Joint Secretary of the Urban Development Department emphasized the advantages of the electric crematoriums. Not only will they offer a more ecological and cleaner alternative to traditional cremation, but they are also expected to save a considerable amount of time.

The press release highlighted the modern features integrated into these electric crematoriums, focusing on the importance of maintaining hygiene and sanitation, ultimately ensuring a dignified farewell for the deceased.

This initiative aligns seamlessly with the vision of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha-led BJP government in Tripura, which is committed to delivering modern and improved services to the people of the state.

As the construction of these electric crematoriums gains momentum in several urban areas, Tripura is setting a noteworthy example for other regions, forging a path towards environmentally conscious and cost-effective end-of-life rituals.
