In a shocking incident, a three year old child sustained grievous injuries after his father repeatedly hit him with a “Bati Dau” (indigenous machete used in chopping off veggies and other stuff) in Tripura on Tuesday. The incident took place at PEC Brick kiln area located at Ramnagar in the peripheries of Agartala City.

Eye witnesses claimed, the accused Rupen Miah who is a smuggling collaborator by profession, attempted to kill his son.

“No father can ever think of doing what Rupen Miah has done to his son. As Rupen Mian continued to hit his son with machete, his wife raised the hue and cry to save the helpless child from the clutches of his father. Soon, locals rushed inside his house and witnessed the brutal scene. Some of the locals prevented him from hitting the already injured boy, while the rest of the others took the child to hospital”, said one Pijush Das.

Das, who went to the hospital, also said, “the child was having cuts in his back and it was a narrow escape for his eyes. As it appeared, one of his earlobes had been slashed and it was bleeding profusely. After admission, the doctors first took him to the surgical ward for stitching. As per the latest information, the baby was out of danger”.

“I have never heard of such an act in my life. It is truly a shocking incident and no normal human being can do this with his son. As the father works as a smuggling collaborator, it may happen that the person is a drug addict and may be that under the spell of drugs he committed the crime”, said a neighbor of Rupen Miah.

Meanwhile, Police acted swiftly and arrested the father, Rupen Miah. Police came to know about the incident from locals.

Speaking on the issue, an on-duty police officer said, “we have been informed about the incident by locals. The accused has been arrested and investigation will follow its course”.
