The State Government has identified three sports activities for special emphasis and launched multi-dimensional initiatives to ensure improvement in the Sports arena.
Khelo Tripura Sushtha Tripura, Mukhyamantri Pratibhashali Puruskar and several initiatives under the Khelo India Scheme are in force. Besides, the Government also opened Dedicated Coaching Centers for sports in different parts of the State, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy informed the State Assembly on Monday.
Detailing about the steps, the Minister said, three sports activities – Judo, Swimming and Athletics – have been specially identified for conducting competitions starting from the Block-level to State-level.
“For success in the National-level, selected players are undergoing trainings at the residential Training camps”, Roy pointed out.
Programmes & Schemes
He also mentioned about several projects and schemes which are already in force for holistic development of the sports sector and enhance performance of the players.
“The Government has launched State-wide Khelo Tripura Sushtha Tripura programme aiming at building Nesha Mukt Tripura and create opportunity of healthy life style. As part of the initiatives, several local sports like Kabaddi and tug-of-war, along with awareness programme and cultural events are being conducting across the State”, Tinku Roy informed the House.
The Minister said, “Mukhyamantri Pratibhashali Puruskar has been constituted for the medal winners in the National and International events to encourage the players. Besides, Mukhyamantri Sports Development and Mukhyamantri Talent Search Scheme have been launched”.
Besides, 41 dedicated Coaching Centers were set up in 2023 to impart trainings to the players. Several steps under the Khelo India Scheme to improve infrastructure facilities and create new facilities were taken up and many more are in the pipeline.
“Works for laying synthetic turf football ground in Jampuijala Sudhanya Debbarma Smriti HS+2 School, Synthetic Athletic track and synthetic Hockey Ground are in progress in State Sports Complex in Badarghat.
He also informed the House, “Necessary sanctions were given for construction of an advanced basketball ground at NSRCC and a Multi-purpose Sports hall at Teliamura”.
Physical Instructor crisis
Even as the Government is working for the betterment of the sports sector, the sports activities in School is riddled with severe shortage of Physical Instructors in schools across the State.
In reply to a question, the Minister said there are total 695 High Schools and 497 HS+2 Schools. There are PIs in 91 schools – 40 High Schools and 51 HS+2 Schools- whereas 1101 schools are running without PIs.
PIs will be posted in the remaining schools after the direct recruitment in 226 vacant posts in Junior Physical Instructors Group –C category, Roy said.
