In a concerning development, 62 persons were reported to be suffering from Dengue in Dhanpur area under Sepahijala District in Tripura.

All of the Dengue patients are undergoing treatment at the Government Health Centre and conditions of them were stated to be stable.

The prevalence of Dengue sparked panic among the people of the District.

According to Simantika Das, medical officer in-charge (MOIC) of Dhanpur Primary Health Centre, 62 people have been found dengue positive in the hospital over the past one week. She said, Dhanpur colony and Induria are the most affected places.

The medical officer said all the patients are undergoing treatment and there is nothing to worry. She confirmed that the samples of the people, who were suffering from fever, were sent to Agartala and after testing, the samples were found dengue positive.

The local administration has already initiated an awareness drive in the dengue-affected areas.

According to local sources, the prevalence of dengue was not heard in Dhanpur area in recent years.

It may be noted Rubber cultivation is common in the district and many people are involved in collecting latex and other plantation related activities. Experts believe that latex collection cups in the rubber plantations are ideal breeding place for dengue mosquito, especially during the monsoon season.

Keeping this in mind, the health officials urged the people who visit rubber plantations to cover their body so that no part of the body remain exposed for mosquito bites. Besides, intensive fogging has also been suggested.

To combat dengue, awareness campaign started urging people to follow preventive measures and ensure that water is not accumulated in coolers, trays under fridges, containers and any such potential dengue mosquito breeding spots.

The health officials assured that situation in Dhanpur area is under control and there is nothing to be panicked.
