Tripura observed the 76th death anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, the visionary behind the modernization of the State.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor, Dipak Majumder, joined other dignitaries in paying solemn homage to the Maharaja at the Royal Crematorium located in the Battala area of the capital On Wednesday (May 17).

Notably, the Maharaja initiated numerous reforms, focusing on areas such as education, infrastructure, and governance. Recognizing the importance of education in driving societal growth, he established schools and colleges.

Infrastructure development was another area where Maharaja Bir Bikram displayed his forward-thinking approach.

The establishment of the Agartala Airport, which was later named in his honor, stands as a testament to his commitment to progress.

In an interaction with the press, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized the significant role played by Maharaja Bir Bikram in shaping the modern identity of Tripura. He lauded the Maharaja’s immense contributions to the state’s development, stating that his legacy deserved to be cherished.

Highlighting the efforts of the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the State, the Mayor commended their endeavors to honor Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya, who holds an important place in the history of Tripura.

He mentioned notable initiatives undertaken by the government, such as renaming the Agartala Airport in the Maharaja’s honour and designating his birthday as a government holiday. Furthermore, statues and idols have been erected in different places in the city to ensure that both residents and visitors comprehend his significance and contributions.

Mayor Dipak Majumder also revealed that the Agartala Municipal Corporation has set plans in motion for the prompt renovation and beautification of the Royal Crematorium in Battala. By improving this historical site, they aim to preserve its grandeur and cultural value for future generations.
