About 2,500 terminated teachers attempted to gherao the opposition leader and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar’s residence and demanded his arrest ‘for violating recruitment rules while appointing these teachers’.
In the history of Tripura this is for the first time, some agitators tried to gherao an opposition leader’s residence.
The organization which is believed to be affiliated to the ruling BJP, also strongly criticized, evidently in reference to the recent protests in front of Civil Secretariat, the CPIM’s naked bid to use the axed teachers for their own political gain.
A group of retrenched teachers on Monday gathered en masse in front of opposition leader’s official residence. The organization felt that this government was leaving no stone unturned to offer them an alternative livelihood opportunity.
“The CPIM is trying to fish in the muddy water. They are responsible for what has happened to us. The former Chief Minister as well as the LF government has no belief on the law of the land.
In the years, 2002, 2009 and 2007 interviews are taken and jobs are released in the year 2010 when the new guidelines are already in force”, said Pradip Banik one of the key members of the association.
Banik also claimed that the CPIM was trying to mislead a section of the 10,323 teacher’s for its own political gain.
“The present state government is trying it’s best to offer alternative employment opportunities for the retrenched teachers. Only recently, the state government has declared Group C and Group D posts. But, the CPIM is trying to take political mileage over the issue”, said Banik.
Another teacher pointed out that it was the arrogance and prejudice that prevented them to implement the verdict of the Single Bench of High Court which had asked the then left Front government to give jobs to aggrieved youths who had gone to the court.
“Had the government given the jobs to those deserving petitioners, and not go by their arrogance and intransigence that led to our misfortune. While the then government especially former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was resposnsible so were the Chief Secretary SK Panda, Education Secretary Banamali Sinha, Law secretary DM Jamatia and also the advocate general who failed to understand the legal points and perhaps also misled the government- wilfully or unknowingly”, he said.
On the other hand Banik, demanding arrest of the opposition leader said, “Those who are actually responsible for as to what we are facing today must be put behind the bars. The former Chief Minister and present leader of the opposition should be arrested for not adhering to the recruitment rules”. The teacher’s organization demonstrated in front of Manik Sarkar’s official residence for a while and then pushed back by the police.
