ADC Polls: Gana Mukti Parishad Takes to Streets in Teliamura
Teliamura, Dec 17: Gana Mukti Parishad, the tribal wing of CPIM in Tripura, hit the road today in Teliamura of Khowai District of Tripura.
The Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) activists also held a rally raising slogans in support of several demands pertaining to the people living in the TTAADC area.
With the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council elections ensuing, the Teliamura divisional committee of the GMP submitted a deputation to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The deputation was submitted in support of a series of demands related to constitutional safeguards and tribal welfare.
A detailed memorandum was handed over to the SDM by a delegation led by Arun Debbarma, Arpana Kalai and Ratan Kishore Jamatia.
The memorandum called for the implementation of the 125th Constitutional Amendment to strengthen the Autonomous District Council (ADC) with enhanced financial and administrative powers.
It also sought the inclusion of the Kokborok language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and demanded the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the amended Forest Act.
The organisation further urged the authorities to increase ration allocations and take strict steps to prevent corruption in the public distribution system.
Other demands included ensuring permanent employment opportunities for unemployed youth, firm action against drug abuse and illegal activities, and the development of basic infrastructure such as roads, drinking water facilities and uninterrupted electricity supply in ADC areas.
Prior to the submission of the deputation, a preparatory meeting was held at the CPIM Teliamura divisional office.
Party workers and supporters later took out a rally in Teliamura town, marching through different localities.
At the conclusion of the rally, a three-member delegation submitted a seven-point charter of demands at the SDM’s office.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said that the upliftment of people living in hilly and remote regions requires concrete administrative action beyond official documentation.
They warned of a broader agitation if the demands are not addressed promptly.
Officials at the SDM’s office received the memorandum and assured that the demands would be examined with due seriousness.
