Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party staged protest rallies in Agartala and other parts of the State condemning Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s remark against President of India Droupadi Murmu.
While BJP supporters hit streets in numbers, social media platforms were also abuzz with condemnation. In reality, BJP supporters burnt effigies of Congress leaders whereas in virtual world witnessed expression of anger of the netizens especially saffron supporters. In both the reality and virtual world, the demand was same – Adhir Ranjan and Sonia Gandhi must seek apology for the remark of Adhir Ranjan.
In Agartala, hundreds of BJP workers led by former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb joined the protest rally today. After roaming around the city, they burnt effigies of the Congress leaders including Adhir Ranjan.
In a tweet, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, “On behalf of the people of #Tripura I strongly condemn the manner in which Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury addressed the President. He has hurt dignity of the President with his objectionable & shameful remark that too at a time when the nation is gearing up to observe #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav”
Speaking to the media, Deb said the Congress leader’s disrespect to the President is dishonour to the sentiment of the countrymen and the glorious history of the country. He strongly condemned the derogatory comment of the Congress leader.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, BJP general secretaries Kishore Barman, Papia Dutta and others took part in the protest programme.
In Kumarghat under Unakoti District, BJP led Minister Bhagaban Das and MLA Sudhangshu Das brought out a rally condemning Adhir Ranjan’s ‘Rastrapatni’ remark referring to the President of India. The saffron supporters also burnt effigies of Adhir Ranjan and others to vent anger.
A similar protest programme was held at Charilam under Sepahijala district and BJP supporters organized a protest rally which started from Bishalgarh Motor Stand area and roamed around different areas.
In other places including Belonia min South Tripura, Gandachhera in Dhalai District and Sonamura in Sepahijala District BJP supporters brought out rallies protesting against Adhir Ranjan’s remark.
