Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) has welcomed the strict restrictions put on place by the state government suspending any public gathering. The party’s General Secretary and Second in command, Jagadish Debbarma said, “In this prevailing situation, we are welcoming the strict stand of the government but we are demanding that the every political party be treated in the same manner. If any violation of the norms take place from the ruling party, INPT shall launch its programmes without even thinking of the restrictions”.
Addressing a Press briefing at party’s city office located at Krishnanagar, Debbarma said, “We have earlier called a meeting at Nudwai hall Khumulwng which stands cancelled in view of the restrictions. Though, we have approached the Chief Secretary as our workers are eager for a meeting to decide strategies for the ensuing ADC polls, the proposal has been declined. We are not offended for that at all – but same thing should implemented for ruling party also”.
On being asked on the alliance with Congress, he said, the party leaders including president Bijoy Kumar Hranghkwal met in a courtesy meeting with the Congress president Pijush Biswas but there were no final settlement. There were a range of issued which were yet to be discussed and settled between the parties.
The INPT leader also stressed on the importance of united efforts in ensuing polls to ensure BJP’s defeat. “The people who are now set on the helm of power have done less for the ADC. The ADC come into force after a prolonged movement waged by the INPT and other like- minded parties and to protect its very democratic structure, it is necessary to fight back the powers that are against it. We the INPT is inviting everyone to come and join hands with us to ensure a befitting reply to the BJP in the polls that are about to be conducted”, Debbarma concluded.
