In an attempt to bolster confidence and prospect of Congress in upcoming Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Polls scheduled to be held on April 6 next, AICC central Observer for Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Kuljit Singh Nagra launched a spirited verbal attack against CPM and BJP. He did not spare his former colleague and now chairman of TIPRA Pradyot Kishore Debbarman. Nagra also said, Congress will fulfill five promises made on its poll manifesto, if voted to TTAADC.
Urging people to vote for Congress candidates, Kuljit Singh Nagra on Thursday slammed the previously ruling CPM and incumbent BJP for their failures in containing the increasing unemployment in the state and held them responsible for running the governments “visionless”.
Kuljit Singh Nagra also called his ex-colleague TIPRA chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman to clear his stand whether he was against the BJP or fighting the polls to smoothen the way of the BJP.
Speaking at an election rally at Natunbazar under Gomati district in Tripura in support of Congress candidates for the next week’s district council polls, he said, “the BJP-IPFT government betrayed the people of the state with its tall claims and empty promises. It did everything to make people believe that they were the saviours of the people from the 25 years long misrule of the state. But, little did they do in the last three years for the people of the state. The stark difference between BJP’s promises and realities were obvious in Tripura”.
The Punjab legislature also asserted that it was the Congress that always stood beside the people always.
“Congress was the party that gave 6th Schedule status to the ADC for protection of the indigenous people of Tripura. It was the Congress that always knew as to what should be given to the indigenous people for protection of their cultural heritage and linguistic practices” he said adding that still the Congress only could change the fate of the people.
“We all know how people are in distress for clean water. Thus Congress guarantees water connectivity for all. Congress knows the need for social security, that is why the party has decided to give health insurance for the rubber garden tappers. The party knows the requirement of promoting the language of indigenous people and this is why the party is guaranteeing inclusion of Kokborok in the 8th schedule”, said Nagra.
He had also promised that all the five guarantees that the Congress had assured would be fulfilled if voted to power in the district councils.
