The vice president of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), Hannan Mollah, made an announcement on Tuesday regarding the upcoming protests planned by farmers under the AIKS banner. These protests are scheduled to take place across the capitals of 25 major cities in India, starting on November 26 and lasting for three days. The primary objective behind these demonstrations is to urge the Central government to address the long-standing grievances of farmers.
Apart from that the AIKS will start holding agitation in August, September and October.
During a press conference held in Agartala on Tuesday, Hannan Mollah highlighted the failure of the Central government to adequately address the concerns of farmers. He also expressed concern over the government’s apparent inclination towards privatizing the agricultural sector. As a result, the AIKS has decided to expand its protests nationwide, aiming to rally support and attention in 25 major cities throughout the country.
Among the demands put forth by the farmers, the key issues include the implementation of loan waivers, the effective enforcement of Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for agricultural produce, compensation for the families of protesting farmers, and the establishment of a fair system for crop procurement and ration distribution.
The distressing situation faced by farmers due to the lack of MSP for their produce has resulted in an alarming rise in farmer suicides and mounting loan burdens. Meanwhile, the Central government’s perceived apathy towards their plight has left the farming community feeling betrayed and ignored.
In addition to the farmers’ issues at the national level, Hannan Mollah also criticized the BJP-led government in Manipur for its failure to effectively tackle the prevailing challenges within the state. He expressed deep concern over the deteriorating peace and security situation in Manipur, and he accused the government and the leadership at the Centre of being unresponsive to the escalating problems.
