First flight of Akasa Air reached at MBB Airport in Agartala from Bengaluru via Guwahati on October 21 as the airline started its daily flight operations in Agartala-Guwahati and Agartala-Bengaluru routes from Friday onwards.

The flight with 189 seats is expected to strengthen air connectivity between Agartala and other States.

An inauguration programme was organized at the Airport in presence of Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr Manik Saha, Transport Minister of Tripura Pranajit Singha Roy, the CMO & CXO Akasa Air and the Airport Director.

 In his inaugural speech Dr Manik Saha pointed out importance of improved connectivity and said the incumbent government is making all out efforts to harness the communication system.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the drastic development that the Agartala Airport has gone through in all terms. He hailed the Prime Minister for upgrading the MBB Airport to the International Airport.

Akasa Air, a new Indian low-cost airline, is a brand of SNV Aviation Private Limited.  It is backed by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala. The airline acquired its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in July this year. 

The CEO of Akasa Air, Vinay Dube, has stated that Akasa aims to have 18 aircraft by the end of 2022, and to add around 12-14 aircraft per year. He also said Akasa Air will have around 72 aircraft by 5 years. 

Dube stated that the airline will initially have services from metro cities to tier-2 and tier-3 cities, as well as operating flights to major cities across India as well. 

On July 7, 2022, Akasa Air received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from DGCA after completing the required proving flights. 

The airline is expected to launch commercial operations by the end of July prior to completing any final formalities. 

Meantime, MP from Tripura Rebati Tripura dubbed the new air service as ‘A new feather has been added to the communication system of the state”.
